Vanessa Friend qualified in 2009 and joined May, May & Merrimans, before the firm joined forces with Hunters in 2015, in 2012.
Vanessa deals with all aspects of family law including divorce, complex financial disputes further to a marital or relationship breakdown and prenuptial agreements. She also deals with issues of child contact and has extensive experience in cases regarding leave to remove children from the jurisdiction.
Vanessa regularly writes on all issues pertaining to family law, with articles published in Spear’s and The Law Society, most recently commenting in The Telegraph. She also presented a webinar on children law for LexisNexis in 2016, intended as practical guidance for those in the legal profession.
Vanessa enjoys public engagement and speaking, and is passionate about increasing public understanding on family law issues. She is a member of Resolution‘s Litigants in Person Working Party committee, which is considering the issues facing individuals attending court without legal representation. She also volunteers at the Citizen’s Advice Bureau in the Royal Courts of Justice, situated in the Central Family Court.
In 2017, she gave a presentation to a group of 70 young people on prenuptial agreements at the Institute of Contemporary Arts. Vanessa also co-presented the Lexis Nexis webinar financial remedies update 2017.
Vanessa is nominated for ‘Family Lawyer of the Year – Associate’ at this year’s Citywealth Future Leaders Awards, and is recommended in The Legal 500 2017 for her family law work.
